Veneers
Veneers are a great solution for people with stained, chipped, decayed or crooked teeth, and Dental Perfections offers both porcelain and composite veneers for our patients.
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are very fine thin shelled coverings that are bonded to the outside surface of your front teeth. They are meant to replace the enamel of your tooth to either cover up a serious stain or to create the illusion that your teeth are straight. Porcelain veneers can look very natural and beautiful.
The downside to porcelain veneers is that they are permanent and require future maintenance. When used for straightening and depending on how much correcting needs to be done, the tooth must be prepped or drilled slightly before the veneer is applied, and another porcelain veneer, or sometimes a crown, may be required. Overtime the veneer will have to be redone.
Composite Veneers
Composite veneers utilize a composite filling material that is directly bonded to the outside surface of the teeth to either simply change their color, or to shape them to appear straight. Composite veneers do not compromise or dimish tooth structure, but rather add to the outside surface of the tooth once applied.
The benefit of composite veneers is that there is no harm done to your teeth, because no tooth structure is removed. Composite veneers are not as shiny as porcelain veneers, and typically last between 7 and 10 years at which time they can either be removed or redone.
